Chain Power Loss Test by road.cc

7 Watts of Drivetrain Loss. Independently Tested by road.cc

Revolubes Matches CeramicSpeed UFO Drip in an Independent Drivetrain Efficiency Test.

Can the lubricant on your bicycle chain really make you faster?

The team at road.cc decided to find out by putting three premium bicycle chain lubricants to the test: Revolubes, CeramicSpeed UFO Drip and AbsoluteBlack GraphenLube.

Using an indoor trainer, a crank-based power meter and a repeatable testing procedure, they measured the difference in drivetrain power losses.

The result? Just 7 watts of drivetrain loss at 250 watts of rider power, matching CeramicSpeed UFO Drip and achieving 97.2% drivetrain efficiency.

And here's the best part: this wasn't a sponsored video. Revolubes didn't pay for the test.

Watch Revolubes Put to the Test

Three premium lubricants. Three brand-new chains. One independent comparison.

Watch the road.cc team put Revolubes through its paces and discover how much power your bicycle chain could be wasting.

Just 7 Watts Lost. How Did Revolubes Compare?

At a normalised rider power of 250 watts, road.cc reported the following drivetrain power losses:

Revolubes matched CeramicSpeed UFO Drip, while reducing measured drivetrain losses by approximately 33% compared with the factory-lubricated chains.

That's 3.5 watts less power wasted through the drivetrain, simply by properly preparing and lubricating the chain.

And compared with a completely dry chain? The measured difference was an impressive 8.1 watts.

What Could That Mean on the Road?

33.6 Seconds Faster Over 25 km?

To translate their findings into real-world terms, road.cc used a cycling performance calculator to estimate the potential time savings.

For a flat 25 km ride at a constant 250 watts, the calculations suggested that Revolubes could save:

- 33.6 seconds compared with a completely dry chain.

- 14.4 seconds compared with a brand-new chain using its factory lubricant.

These figures are calculated estimates based on the test results, not recorded outdoor riding times.

For competitive cyclists, every second matters. But even if you're not chasing podiums, why waste energy fighting unnecessary drivetrain friction?

Efficiency Is Only Half the Story

Low Friction Is Great. But How Long Does It Last?

A lubricant that performs brilliantly for a few kilometres is one thing. A lubricant that keeps protecting your drivetrain over longer distances is another.

That's why Revolubes has also been independently evaluated by Zero Friction Cycling (ZFC), a specialist organisation testing bicycle chain lubricants for longevity and wear protection.

In ZFC's Single Application Longevity testing, Revolubes Clear Blend demonstrated performance lasting up to 1,100 km on a single application under the test conditions.

While road.cc focused on drivetrain efficiency, ZFC's separate testing provides another perspective on lubricant performance: durability under controlled contamination and wear testing.

Two independent testing approaches. Two important aspects of chain lubrication.

Testing note: The road.cc results were obtained using an indoor trainer and two power meters. The reported power losses include the complete drivetrain, not solely the chain. Results are specific to the tested equipment and procedure. The estimated road time savings are calculated projections. Zero Friction Cycling results come from separate testing using a different methodology; they should not be interpreted as findings from the road.cc video.
